IPL 2020 : Delhi Capitals handed second defeat in a row to Chennai Super Kings by 44 runs

Delhi Capitals handed second defeat in a row to Chennai Super Kings by 44 runs here in Dubai. Delhi sits on top of the table with two wins in tow matches.

MS Dhoni, Captain of Chennai Super Kings once again opted to chase after winning the toss. But his team disappoints him with another sublime batting performance under lights. Chennai also suffering to find perfect balance in team selection without Injured Ambati Rayadu and all-rounder Bravo.

On the other hand Delhi Capitals are riding high after winning both games so far under young captain Shreyas Iyer. Though Delhi batsman able to put 175 on the board, discipline bowling by South African pair KG Rabada and Anrich Nortje is the reason behind their success so far.

Shikar Dhawan & Prithvi Shaw’s solid opening partnership of 94 runs in 10.4 overs laid foundation for big score. Both batsmen played exceptionally well and their shot selection is remarkable.

Both Dhawan (35 runs from 27 balls) and Shaw (64 runs from 43 balls) dismissed by Chawla in unfortunate way. But Pant, 37 runs from 25 and Iyer, 26 runs from 22 helped to put a decent target of 176 to mighty Super Kings.

Chennai’s chase was not really on, and nothing to write about their batting performance. Murali Vijay (10 runs from 15 balls) is awful with the bat for third straight game and he don’t deserve to be in the starting XI for the next game. Shane Watson (14 from 16 balls) not able to convert starts into big scores.

Faf du Plessis once again led Chennai batsmen in scoring with 43 runs from 35 balls. Gaikwad (5 of 10 balls) again poor , don’t deserve to play ahead of Dhoni,Jadeja and Curran.

Dhoni should use the break before next game effectively to sort out team selection issue, Chennai looks pretty weak in both bowling and batting department. They need some youngster who can bring spark to re-energize team.

“In the start, you have to see how the wicket is. It is important to play along the ground at the start. Last year too I struck well but made silly mistakes. We had a slow start in PP, but we knew we had wickets in hand and we could make up. I think the wicket was better than our last match.”

Shreyas Iyer, Captain of Delhi Capitals:

“I am really happy with the performance. I will give the fielders a benefit of doubt because these are not good conditions for catching. Because of the lighting. You sometimes misjudge the ball. You go hard, and it does come really fast. You are not sure where to position yourself. We decided we need to win comprehensively, we are happy we did that. We decided we need to assess the conditions well. The wicket was playing slow and two-paced, so we our finish was actually over-par on this surface. I am really lucky to have two power-house fast bowlers. You don’t have to tell them what to do.”

MS Dhoni, Captain of Chennai Super Kings:

“I don’t think it was a good game for us. The wicket did slow down a bit, there was no dew, but I think we are lacking steam in the batting department. We need to figure that out. The break in the nest seven days is the best chance we could get: give them match simulation and look for the right balance. If you look at the bowling department, there are not all consistent. We are one batsman heavy, and we can only think of getting one more bowler, we need some signs that they can take the extra load. Rayudu should play the next match so he gives us the room to experiment with the extra bowler.”
