Vettel :”To me, certainly emotionally, Michael will always be the greatest driver”

Sebastian Vettel wins his first podium of the 2020 Formula 1 season after finishing P3 in the Sunday’s Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park. The Four-time World Champion drove exceptionally well under real tough conditions, the whole race took place under extreme wet conditions.

Vettel started the race from P11 on the grid after Stewards punished Lando Norris with 5-place grid penalty for ignoring yellow flags during qualifying session. Vettel had very nice getaway at the start of the race and reached P4 at the end of first lap after gaining incredible 7 places on a damp track.

Vettel’s team mate Charles Leclerc also drove wonderful job to come home in P4 after starting the race from P12 on the grid. The Monegasque driver lost two places in the final three corners during final lap of the race, after overtaking struggling Sergio Perez in the final lap, he out braked him-self and run wide to drop from P2 to P4.

The Four-Time World Champion earned Driver of the day reward for his incredible performance, when asked about team’s performance during post race interview Vettel said, “In all fairness, I mean it’s a good result for us, but it’s Lewis’ day, if you make history like that. The first thoughts go to him and it’s a massive achievement and I’m happy I can witness first time”.

When asked about his feelings about being on the podium after a long time Vettel replied, “Well, obviously good, it’s been a while. Nice to take a trophy home!. I looked at the trophy today and I thought ‘that’s a nice one!’, it was maybe worth getting it! All the other ones this year, I didn’t care!”

Since Ferrari decided to drop Vettel before start of the season, The German faced immense scrutiny from F1 journalist, TV Pundits and ex-F1 drivers about his credibility as top Formula 1 driver, with a great drive today Vettel silenced his critics. But during post-race press conference when Seb was asked if he thinks he is still the same “quality” of driver as when he won his 4 titles. Vettel responded by saying

“I’m a bit shocked by the way you phrased your question… I don’t doubt that I can do a good job in the car & don’t feel anything has changed. I’ve never doubted that I can achieve success when things go normally. That’s why such questions surprise me.”

“We scored the most points this year for us & Mattia wasn’t here. Maybe if at the next race we don’t score as many points maybe we try again to leave him at home! No, I don’t think it’s related to that! I don’t believe in this kind of stuff”.

“He is the greatest of our era for sure… Every era has its driver. And Lewis is certainly the greatest of our era. To me, certainly emotionally, Michael will always be the greatest driver. But there’s no doubt that Lewis is the greatest in terms of what he has achieved. He’s equaled the championships, won more races & poles. He’s done all you can ask for”.
