Ralf Schumacher : “Vettel was not treated properly from the beginning of 2019”

Is anyone know Ferrari better than Schumacher ? may be not….though he is not Michael, Ralf Schumacher believes that the foundations for Sebastian Vettel’s dramatic 2020 season have already been laid in 2019.

While doing analysis in Sport1, The 6 time Grand Prix winner points out the exact point at which things went wrong in the relationship between the four-time world champion and Ferrari, after which the Scuderia turned exclusively to Charles Leclerc.

“It is a fact that Vettel was not treated properly from the beginning of 2019. The first break in the relationship occurred in Monza last year. The team supported Leclerc in the slipstream affair”, according to the German, who knows that the arrival of Leclerc drastically changed the dynamics within the team.

With the slipstream affair he refers to the fact that the Ferrari drivers would offer each other a slipstream during Q3 of qualifying at Monza. After Vettel gave that tow to his colleague, he didn’t get it back because many drivers were late for the start finish and missed their second run on the Italian circuit.

Ralf Schumacher talks about Vettel and Ferrari split

Ferrari shot into the defence and stood behind Leclerc. From then on it went downhill for the Heppenheimer, Schumacher saw: “They were already completely under the spell of Leclerc and were increasingly developing the car to meet Leclerc’s requirements”.

The 2019 figures before Monza show that Vettel did not lose his form and that until the arrival of the Monegasque he was the fastest at Ferrari, according to the former BMW driver: “Last year Vettel had races in which he was from another world.”

“You saw that clearly in Canada and on the Red Bull Ring. This year he didn’t stand a chance in Spielberg”, Schumacher points to the tenth place and the DNF during the first two Grands Prix of the 2020 season.

“Ferrari has therefore started to focus exclusively on Leclerc, leaving Vettel with a car he can’t handle at all. You can’t ignore that, both are very different in their driving style”, says Schumacher.

“Leclerc, however, is younger and will adapt more easily to the situation. What’s more, after a mistake, he’s not off the mark. So he is able to keep Ferrari behind him”, he concludes.
