Mercedes technical director Mike Elliot explains Lewis Hamilton Brazil GP DRS issue

Mercedes technical director Mike Elliot explains Lewis Hamilton’s rear wing damage that caused him disqualification from 2021 Brazilian GP qualifying on Friday. The Seven-time World champion overcame 25 place grid penalty (including Sprint qualifying) to win the race in a dominating weekend.

As part of Brazil Grand Prix Race debrief, Mercedes’ Mike Elliot revealed that Team yet to understand the reason behind Lewis Hamilton’s failed DRS wing test by FIA. Since FIA sealed the Wing and not sent back to Mercedes factory they were unable to conduct any further investigation.

Elliot also explained teams do their own tests every race weekend with more force than normal level to avoid these kind of punishments from FIA. He further explained Bottas’s lucky pit-stop under virtual safety car and Lewis’s incredible charge in the race.
