IPL2020: One Indian Player and ten staff members of Chennai Super Kings tests positive for COVID-19

Chennai Super Kings,three time IPL champions hit by corona-virus before start of 2020 season . As one player and around ten members of the team’s support staff tested positive for the virus since arriving in the United Arab Emirates, where the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held. Both IPL and Chennai Super Kings officials not released any official statement on this news so far.

OnThe Chennai Super Kings quarantine period has been extended by a week, delaying their team training program. The IPL is set to start on September 19.

An India player who tested positive is a a right-arm medium fast bowler, who has recently played for team India,identity of the player not released to the media. One of those found positive is the wife of a senior Super Kings official, though the official himself has tested negative.

Super Kings landed in Dubai on August 21, before leaving to Dubai all the members were tested negative for covid-19,so it is believed that during transit they might have contacted the virus.

The positive test results are from the final round of testing in the UAE i.e 6th day after arriving to Dubai. IPL’s Covid-19 protocols comprising three tests that are mandatory for every person who is part of the tournament,one at the airport upon landing in the UAE, followed by two tests at the hotel on days 3 and 6.

The protocol also makes it mandatory for everyone to undergo a six-day quarantine after landing, during quarantine players are not supposed to mingle with fellow team members.Squad members should clear all the mandatory tests before teams start their training.

As a result of this development, Super Kings have been forced to postpone the start of their training in Dubai to September 1,originally scheduled on Friday,28th August. According to the IPL’s Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs), all those who tested positive will now need to undergo at least two weeks of further quarantine and clear two more tests before they can rejoin the group.
