Hungarian GP : Post-Friday reaction from Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez

After eventful two weeks off the track, Red Bull finally started to focus on the job at Hungarian GP. Red Bull had a mixed fortunes during Friday practice sessions.

In the morning Free practice 1, Max Verstappen led the field with a fastest lap time of 1:17.555 and he was able to complete 21 laps, while Sergio Perez comes home in P8, +0.911s down on Max’s P1 time. The Mexican managed to complete just 20 laps.

In the afternoon FP2 session, the temperatures gone up at Hungaroring. Max managed to come home in P3 behind Mercedes driving pair Bottas and Hamilton. His fastest lap time 1:17.310 is better than his morning efforts but not good enough to lead the board.

Max time is +0.298s down on Bottas’s P1 time, he managed to complete 24 laps for the session, while Checo comes home in P5 with a fastest lap time of 1:17.824. His efforts are +0.812s down on session leader time. Checo completed 23 laps.

On a track where overtaking is really tough and Mercedes has been dominating for years, Red Bull needs to find some lap time before crucial Qualifying session to challenge the Silver arrows.

Max Verstappen

“In general, it was not an easy day on track today, we had a few adjustments that we were working on from FP1 and FP2 that we need to look into, seeing what works and what doesn’t. There are a lot of things to analyse this evening but there’s nothing too big to overcome so I’m not worried. The track was very hot today, but it looks like there’s a bit of rain coming so that should make things interesting and I’m looking forward to it.”

Max sets P1 time in FP1 and P3 in FP2. Red Bull have some work to do ahead of important qualifying.

Sergio Perez

“The car felt good over the longer and shorter runs today. I think there’s definitely time to be found, I was caught in some traffic during both sessions so I think there is still plenty to play for in qualifying tomorrow. With the weather conditions predicted to change over the weekend, there is a bit of an unknown, it may benefit some more than others so we will have to wait and see what happens. We’ve made good steps and we have a good idea about what we need to do before qualifying to make improvements, so I am optimistic for the rest of the weekend.”
